Friday Night Planetarium Presentations for September 2019.
Friday at 6:30pm – “Perfect Little Planet” – This is our family show. All ages may attend. A family from another star system is embarking on the ultimate space vacation looking for the perfect spot to rest and relax. Join them and see the solar system from a distinctly different point of view. Show duration: 40 minutes. Tickets go on sale at 6:00PM.
Friday at 7:30 PM – “THE SKY TONIGHT” – Children must be 6 and above to attend. This program takes the audience on a “live” tour of the wonders of the San Antonio sky. The show highlights the Moon, the evening and morning planets, plus we’ll identify several of the brightest stars and constellations visible in the current sky. The Sky Tonight is a "live" lecture. Show duration: 45-50 minutes. Tickets go on sale at 7:00pm.
Friday at 9:00 PM – “Extreme Planets" & "NASA's Journey to Mars"– Children must be 6 and above to attend.
"Extreme Planets" We now know that planets are not unique to our own Solar System. Explore what makes a planet “Earth-like” in the first place, and then travel to several worlds that just might fit those conditions. Take a tour through some bizarre worlds that exist within our own galaxy.
"NASA’S Journey to Mars” – Children must be 6 and above to attend. Prepare your yourself for STEM-related career opportunities in the future. Interest in them is pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation. NASA’s fleet of Mars robotic explorers are paving the way for human exploration of the Solar System in the coming decades. Join NASA in preparing for a monumental journey of a lifetime – to Mars!
Total Show duration: 60 minutes. Tickets go on sale at 8:30PM.
As a result of the SAC Campus Revitalization Project, parking is available in unreserved spaces in Lots 16, 23 and the five-level parking garage off of 1819 N. Main Ave. You will need to walk through campus to the west past the Moody Learning Center and Chance Academic Centers. Our center is nestled in the center of campus across from the Candler Gyms and Kinesthetics Center and between the Nail Technical and Chemistry & Geology buildings. Look for the distinctive blue Cheever Star Tower at the corner of our building.
The Scobee astronomers will open the Scalan Observatory following the 9:00pm planetarium presentation. This is a free service that is dependent upon staffing, visibility, and the elements. If the skies are cloudy or their is a high probability of precipitation, the observatory will not open.
Monday through Thursday, the Challenger Learning Center and Scobee Planetarium provide programming by reservation only for community and school groups of 25 to 101. Reservations: sac-ScobeeCtr@alamo.edu or 210-486-0100.

The address for the Scobee Education Center is also the main address for San Antonio College. Our center is nestled in the center of the SAC Campus across from the Candler Gyms and Kinesthic Center and between the Nail Techical Bldg. and Chemistry & Geology Bldgs. Look for the blue "Charlie Cheever Star Tower"at the corner of our building.
From N. Main Ave., Lots 16 & 23 are on either side of the five-level parking garage. Both are free, open parking areas. Please, do not park in spaces that are marked as reserved for staff & faculty or you may be ticketed. From these parking areas, you will need to make a short two-block walk to the west to locate our center.
